Have you tried canned Sardines?

I know people might be skeptical… but if you don’t have a good idea for a dinner one night, try it. It’s easy, cheap, healthy and good! Go look for health benefits of eating sardines online! You will wonder why you’ve been missing out all this time! So, here’s Japanese style Sardine Rice! You will be shocked and I bet people will ask you how you made them! Check out the recipe below.
I also made seaweed soup.

Sardine Rice
Ingredients
2 cups of Japanese rice washed, rinsed and water drained
2 1/2 cups of water
1 Tbsp of julienned ginger
4 Tbsp light soy
1 Tbsp sugar
3.75 oz skinless boneless sardines in olive oil (Lightly shake the olive oil off the sardines. DO NOT pour all the oil in to the rice mixture.)
1. Place all the ingredients above in to a rice cooker and cook it
2. When done, mix the fish & rice to fluff it and serve. ENJOY!
Seaweed Soup
Ingredients
6 cups of water
1 sheet of kelp cut in 3
handful of bonito flakes
1 med. onion sliced
1/2 Tbsp grated ginger
1 Tbsp of toasted and crushed sesame
2 Tbsp of light soy
1 tsp of salt
1/4 tsp of pepper
1/2 cup of seaweed (wakame), salt washed off, soaked in water for 5 min. to clean off the salt and excess water squeezed out
1. Wipe the surface of the kelp using damp paper towel and place in the water for 30 min.
2. Bring the water to boil with kelp in it and turn the heat off right before the water starts boiling
3. drop the bonito flakes in the hot water and let it sit for 15 min.
4. Strain the bonito flakes and kelp out from the stock you just create and it to a boil
4. Add the onions in to the stock and simmer in med. heat for 5-7 min. until the onions are cooked but not mushy
5. Add ginger, sesame, soy sauce, salt, pepper, and seaweed
6. Simmer in low heat for 5 min. and ENJOY!
Nice! Ravi and I have been addicted to canned sardines or smoked oysters on cracked pepper triscuits lately so we definitely need to give this a try. Ravi made miso soup from scratch the other day so that will go perfect 🙂

Right? It’s SUPER easy and Sardines are really good for you too. You can probably garnish with scallions shredded “nori” at the end and fancy it up.

This sardine dish sounds very similar to the the one I made the other day with fresh iwashi. it was sooo good. I gilled the sardine first and rest is the same as your recipe. yokattara try shitene-!
